Today, in a letter to the RNC, the White House made their position clear: you have to give them to us first. There "exists a clear and indisputable Executive Branch interest" in the emails on the RNC-issued accounts, wrote Emmet Flood, Special Counsel to the President.

The top Senate Democrat leading investigations into the dismissal of 8 U.S. Attorneys by the Justice Department is comparing e-mails lost by the Republican National Committee to President Richard Nixon’s famous “18-minute” gap in White House tape recordings.

White House Claims It Lost An ‘Undetermined’ Number Of RNC Emails

Karl Rove and other top officials have long been using RNC email accounts to go around the White House system, which automatically archives electronic communications. The White House has now announced that it simply lost an unknown number of these emails.
